Protected Characteristics
- In our Children, Young People & Families services we recognise that the young people and families we support are all different and that we are all equal in those differences.
- We also know that across Cheshire and Wirral there are culturally diverse communities that we need to consider.
- We recognise that we need to think about both these things to ensure that we learn from that diversity and provide equal opportunities for access and support across our services.
- We know that data tells us that 1 in 5 young people in England, aged between 8 to 25, have a possible mental health problem but also that groups protected under the Equality Act 2010 are under-represented within mental health services.
The Equality Act 2010 helps us understand more about these differences and how we can work to support the 9 protected characteristics mentioned within the act.
We want to ensure that we are continually learning and shaping our services based on the lived experience of our communities and the differences people bring. To help us do this we have a network of Participation & Engagement and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion champions who work together with an aim of reaching equity for all.
Pride
Our Participation and Engagement and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champions work hard to support Pride events in the region. Take a look at the videos the team have created.
This year we will be attending Pride events in Wirral, New Brighton, Chester and Sandbach.

Look for the rainbow badges
CWP have signed up to the national rainbow badge initiative, reinforcing the Trust's commitment to being a diverse and inclusive employer and care provider.
This is a simple, visual way to show that CWP offers open, non-judgemental and inclusive support for all people who identify as LGBTQIA+ and their families and friends.
It sends a positive message that we offer open, non-judgmental and inclusive support and care for all.
