Family Nurse Partnership (FNP)

About The Service

What is Family Nurse Partnership (FNP)...

The Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) is a preventative programme offered to first time young parents. A family nurse is assigned to work with families from early pregnancy and will continue to work with a family up until their child is two.

The programme focuses on the future health and wellbeing of the child and mother and works with the stengths of the family offering weekly and fortnightly visits. The visits do not replace midwifery care bit do deliver the core contacts as delivered by health visitors.

Family nurses will often have backgrounds in midwifery and health visiting. They receive extra training to equip them for their specialist role.
